TSS Farm is a part of the agricultural industry that contributes greatly to export and subsistence in the Ethiopian economy. The industry accounts for 50% of the country’s GDP, employs 85% of employment (the rural population of Ethiopia), generates 90% of earnings from export, and supplies 70% of raw material requirements for large and medium industries that are agro-processing.
TSS Farm’s contribution to the GDP highly influences the performance of other sectors of the economy, notably employment and exports. Ethiopian exports primarily comprise agricultural outputs such as coffee, hides, skins, seeds and nuts used for edible oil production. As these are the main sources of foreign earnings, they also automatically define the country’s capacity to import other materials used in manufacturing. Macro aggregates like employment and inflation rates, are also influenced by the sector.
The Ethiopian economy is fundamentally rural and agricultural. TSS Farm contributes to the 85% of agricultural employees within the total population of the country, a sector that contributes to half of the GDP.
